Using the curriculum is easy. The material in the courses was developed using Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. All of the task sheets, PP presentations, tests, lesson plans and reference sheets are printed and supplied in a three ring binder for ease of use. In addition, a CD with all of the materials is also inclued making it easy to edit any of the PowerPoint presentations, skill sheets or tests to suit your individual curriculum needs.
To use this curriculum, you will need a classroom computer with PowerPoint and a projector or monitor.
Accountability has become the buzzword in Career and Technical Education. State and Federal Education Departments now want industry based exit exams to replace the competencies we have relied on for years as a means of measuring student performance. The author of General Automotive Systems & Service has developed, not only a paper and pencil exit exam, but also a hands-on practical exam with 10 stations that can be set up in your shop to test how well students have learned the skills at the end of the course.
Students with all different skill set levels will enter your programs. Some will not know how to put air in a tire, or service an engine and chassis. Others may have some skills they have gained through their own interest or limited training. Most have read all of the car magazines and can chatter on endlessly about turbocharger boost and torque curves, but, do they know what M8x1.25 means or how oil should be disposed of? Can they read a micrometer, drill and tap a hole or provide good service when greeting a customer? Do they have a resume or know how to conduct themselves appropriately in an employment interview? Do they know that for most techs, ASE testing will be mandatory when they are employed? Are they aware of hydrocarbon chains and how chemical reactions inside an engine affect the air we breathe?
All of this and more is presented in an easy to understand visual format in General Automotive System & Services. Completing this course prior to taking any advanced courses will improve student success. This course will apply a visual, auditory and hands on approach to learning. Students can expect to receive a higher level of recognition in the industry in turn promoting higher levels of recognition for your individual programs. Most importantly, you will be providing the automotive industry with a technician properly trained in the fundamental skills of the profession. |
